How model, Sasha Vukovic, preps her skin for a Photoshoot

Plus Skincare

We’re all far too familiar with neglecting our skin and picking up a skincare routine the night before a special occasion, hoping for a miracle that those stubborn spots will vanish and our skin will glow from every angle. But, the disappointment hits when you wake up and see that your skincare concerns haven’t magically disappeared and that in fact, results don’t happen overnight.

That’s not to say that using different cooling eye patches, layering on lip scrubs and putting on peeling foot masks can’t be fun. They can sometimes provide a quick one-off solution, but practising a consistent skincare routine is where you see the real results.

We spoke with Model, Sasha Vukovic, on how she gets her skin ready for a photoshoot, what she’s learnt about building a consistent skincare routine and the importance of being patient when it comes to making efforts to look flawlessly radiant.

Sasha has combination skin type.

“My main skincare concern is dullness. I like to keep my daily skincare routine as minimal as possible whilst still giving my skin the right ingredients”

She reveals, mentioning that Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C are two of her skincare favourites.

“My day to day routine consists of cleansing, toning and moisturising. For cleansing, I use a cleansing gel and hyaluronic acid (every morning), and a liquid exfoliant a couple of times a week.”

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) exfoliants are used to remove a buildup of dead skin cells in the pores and on the skin’s surface, as the salicylic acid works to reduce blemishes and blackheads. The oil-soluble liquid is suitable for sensitive skin and all skin types.

She likes to adapt her skincare routine to her shoot days and time off.

“When I’ve got a big shoot coming up, if it (my skin) calls for brightening, I use a Vitamin C mask or if I’m a little dry, I’ll use a hydrating mask. When I’m off duty, I wear minimal makeup so my skin being bright and fresh is important so that I feel confident in how I look,”

Sasha says.

For dry skin in need of hydration, Algae is also a recommended ingredient that works to rebuild your skin with its antioxidant, anti-melanogenic and skin anti-aging properties. The aquatic plant protects against sun damage, and reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation by working as a natural brightener.

To Summarise…

Your skin type is individual to you, and so not every raved product will work on you. It’s important to listen to your skin and act accordingly to its needs.

“When I’ve found what works for me, I keep it that way and never compromise. It’s trial and error, and it should be a fun and interesting process!” Sasha advises.

People with combination skin types will notice that certain areas of their face are oily, and dry. Using fragrance-free products is best advised to reduce any possibilities of redness appearing on the skin as a result of a negative reaction  to those who are sensitive to fragrance.
