Hey Sheridan, here are some insights based on the answers you gave us when you took our skin survey. The answers you provided really helped us to perfect the product – Base Plus was made with you in mind.
Skin that feels dry
Dry skin is often confusing as there is a difference between (and a different approach for addressing) skin that lacks oils, and skin that lacks hydration. People with a dehydrated skin condition are those whose skin lacks water – this skin type can look oily whilst feeling very dry because often the skin overcompensates with producing oil to make up for the lack of hydration. People often address this by using products containing hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, and making sure to drink enough water throughout the day.
Blackheads and whiteheads
Blackheads and whiteheads are actually a form of acne, and therefore fall under the category of a blemish. They are formed when pores on the skin become clogged with dead skin cells, oil, or bacteria. The difference between the two is that blackheads are formed by pores that stay open, and if the pore closes, a whitehead, or closed comedone, will form.
To treat blackheads and whiteheads, people commonly use oil-free, noncomedogenic skin care products, which do not clog the pores, and ones which contain ingredients such as salicylic acid (which works to unblock pores).
Gentle exfoliation using cloths for example or the mild chemical exfoliants mentioned above can help to prevent the build of of dead skin cells that could lead to clogged pores. Lactic, salicylic and mandelic acids are often more gentle.
